This is my story and I'm stickin' to it! Actually this
is the real deal! I'll keep it brief! At
the age of 8, the calling came..it was the sound of the
immortal "Wolfman Jack Show" on the radio...I was hooked!
Born in San Bernardino, California, raised in Colton
California, I
was surrounded by the airwaves of the West's biggest radio
powerhouse
such as LA's KHJ, KFWB and KRLA, the Inland Empire's KMEN,
KFXM and KOLA, and The Mighty 690,...I quickly absorbed
the charts, stats and trivia. The radio was more than a
hobby...it was a lifestyle!
I
graduated St. Thomas Aquinas High School class of ' 77,
I held a variety of odd jobs from busboy, toy store clerk,
assembly line worker, mechanic, sanitation "engineer,"
and bank teller. During this time I hooked up with some
pals and founded a mobile D.J. company, "Twilight D.J.s."
Fun stuff indeed, but the airwaves continued to call....
In
1982 I enrolled with L.A. Broadcasters of Hollywood, which
helped me win my first radio job as a Producer/Request
Line operator for Mucho Morales on KRLA, Pasadena.
I learned a lot from Mucho. While at KRLA, I also produced shows for Dave Hull, Johnny
Hayes, Huggy Boy and Art Laboe...and got to meet Rick Nelson
and my boyhood favorite, Wolfman Jack!
My
biggest influence at KRLA was the late Emporer Bob Hudson, "He was like a father figure to me.
He always had a few words of wisdom to lay on me each and
every day...and it wasn't until later in my career that
I fully understood what he was teaching me about life and
radio."
KRLA
also gave me my first job behind the microphone when he
was teamed up with Manny Pacheco to co-host the 7 to 11pm
Request and Dedication Show. "Manny
and I used to follow "The Real Don Steele." Boy,
Don was ,....well,...hyper...and loud too...and it was fun
to see him work!"
In
March of 1987, I landed my first solo gig back in San Bernardino doing the 7 to Midnight Request Show at KMEN 1290. Later that year
I went across town to do the
same time slot at KBON 103.9 FM.
I later took two jobs...producing the afternoon show at KRLA and doing a night shift at Riverside's KGGI. Two stations
at once got to be too hectic, and I decided to forego the
LA commute and stay close to home. The Riverside station
was a local Top 40 format ratings powerhouse, but longed
the Oldies
After
a short stint at KOOJ (a Riverside-based Country station)
I got the call I was waiting for. It was
October of 1994 when I was hired at KOLA 99.9. I was back
in my element...playing All Classics All the Time!.
The summer of 2007 I'll celebrate 24 years in radio, and in
the fall of 2007 14 years at KOLA! Thanks for listening and helping
make my dreams
come true!
